Siwan is a passionate and empathetic counsellor registered with the Singapore Association for Counseling. Driven by her commitment to help others and growth-oriented mindset, Siwan continues to expand her knowledge and enhance her counseling skills through ongoing training, even after earning her Master's degree. She’s certified in Acceptance and Commitment Therapy, Transactional Analysis, Schema Therapy (Basic and Advanced Levels), and Eye Movement Desensitization and Reprocessing (Basic Level 1). Additionally, she is trained in Cognitive Behavioral Therapy, Solution-Focused Brief Therapy, mindfulness approaches, and strengths-based approaches.
Siwan firmly believes that everyone is unique. She deeply respects each person's journey of healing and self-discovery. She views counseling as a collaborative effort, acknowledging that clients bring their own belief systems, strengths, needs and preferences to the counselling session. With this awareness, she tailors her counseling approach to meet each client's specific needs as much as possible.
One of Siwan's strengths lies in her ability to engage clients in experiential work to enhance their awareness and acceptance of their inner experiences, promoting mind-body integration. With extensive training and experience in various therapeutic modalities, she helps clients open up and identify suppressed emotions and beliefs from their past that continue to impact their present. Her skills in doing imagery work, mindfulness, relaxation techniques, and cognitive restructuring enable her to guide clients safely through deeper exploration to uncover the root causes of their issues.
Siwan also recognizes the importance of cognitive work and guides clients in identifying irrational beliefs developed during early life experiences, such as "I'm not good enough", "It's my fault." etc. Once these beliefs are identified and brought into conscious awareness, clients can work towards adopting more adaptive and healthy beliefs. By integrating cognitive and experiential approaches, Siwan helps clients develop new perspectives and meanings regarding their past experiences.
Siwan has a diverse clientele, including young adults, individuals from various cultural backgrounds, and creative individuals. She values learning from her clients. She’s also very comfortable with emotions, which help clients eventually be more open and non-judgmental towards their feelings.
In addition to individual sessions, Siwan designs and facilitates interactive workshops aimed at self-reflection and experiential learning. Her workshops cover topics such as self-compassion, strengths exploration, stress management, healthy boundary setting and so on. She has also conducted workshops on para-counseling and peer support to train educators and adults in supporting students and colleagues more effectively.
Siwan's clients often find empowerment and encouragement in their sessions with her.
She sees her clients beyond their difficulties, symptoms or disorder. She sees them as who they truly are - a person who’s becoming. Everyone is inherently complete. With this motto, Siwan empowers clients to rediscover who they are and embrace new possibilities in life.
