Frequently Asked Questions (FAQ)

Please reach us at hello@mindsheart.com if you cannot find an answer to your question.

A counsellor or psychologist helps clients manage emotional, behavioural, and mental health challenges through talk therapy and evidence-based techniques.

A psychiatrist is a medical doctor who can prescribe medication for mental health conditions.

At MindsHeart, our team of psychologists and counsellors focus on counselling and psychotherapy, and we collaborate with psychiatrists when medication support is needed.

If you are feeling stressed, overwhelmed, anxious, low in mood, or struggling with relationships or work-life balance, counselling can help.

Therapy is not only for “serious” issues—it is for anyone who wants to improve mental wellbeing and gain clarity.

Many clients in Singapore come to MindsHeart simply to have a safe, confidential space to talk.

Counselling can support a wide range of concerns including stress, anxiety, depression, grief, relationship difficulties, workplace burnout, parenting struggles, and personal growth.

Our psychologists and counsellors are trained to work with individuals and families.

No. Counselling is not just for people with severe mental health conditions—it is for anyone who wants to improve their wellbeing.

Many clients come to therapy because they are experiencing stress at work, difficulties in relationships, or simply want a safe space to reflect and grow.

At MindsHeart, we believe that early support can prevent challenges from becoming overwhelming.

Counselling works by creating a safe and confidential space where you can explore your thoughts, feelings, and challenges with a trained professional.

Through active listening and evidence-based techniques such as Cognitive Behavioural Therapy (CBT), mindfulness, and solution-focused approaches, our therapists help you gain clarity, develop coping skills, and make meaningful changes. The process is collaborative—you set the pace and goals.

GENERAL PROCESS & EXPERIENCE

In your first session, your therapist will take time to understand your concerns, background, needs and goals in counselling. You will not be pressured to share more than you are comfortable with.

The session is about building trust, allowing the counsellor to understand your past experiences and backgrounds, as well as helping you decide whether this is the right fit for you.

Each MindsHeart counselling session lasts about 60 minutes. This gives you enough time to share, reflect, and receive guidance without feeling rushed.

This varies depending on your goals.

Some clients feel better after a few sessions, while others prefer longer-term support.

Your therapist will review your progress regularly so that you can make the best decision for your needs.

Yes. Confidentiality is a cornerstone of counselling. What you share stays between you and your therapist, except in rare cases where there is a risk of harm to yourself or others, as required by Singapore law.

No, not unless you choose to share it.

Counselling at MindsHeart is strictly confidential. Your personal information and session details will not be disclosed to employers, schools, or family members without your consent.

The only exceptions are when there is a legal requirement in Singapore, such as risk of harm to yourself or others.

COMMON MISCONCEPTIONS

Not at all. Seeking counselling is a sign of strength. It shows that you are taking proactive steps towards your wellbeing. Many successful people in Singapore see therapists as part of maintaining mental health.

Yes. Counsellors provide professional techniques, tools, and perspectives that are hard to access alone. Therapy is not about “fixing” you—it’s about working together to find new ways forward.

Yes. Most people feel a little nervous before their first session. This is completely natural. Once you meet your therapist and start talking, the process usually feels more comfortable than expected.

Counselling is a process. While some relief may come quickly, deeper change often takes time. MindsHeart focuses on sustainable growth rather than short-term fixes.
